Prior to the Nazi party’s official adoption of the symbol in 1920, the swastika was widely used by nearly all cultures in the world. Swastika, a Sanskrit word, literally translates as “good to be.” The symbol was often used to mean good luck or, as is the case with this poster, success. The symbol appears above the poem in the lower right hand corner of the poster. To see a larger version of the poster, click here.
