Our Regular Divisions
Flagg, James Montgomery (1877-1960) The H.C. Miner Litho. Co. N.Y.
At the beginning of the United States involvement in World War I (1914-1918) in 1917 the United States Army was divided into Regular Army (those who joined voluntarily for full-time service), National Army (those drafted into service), and National Guard (those who had made a part-time commitment and were now being called up). These three groups combined were called the American Expeditionary Force.
