The Battle of Fredericksburg

The Life and Public Services of Ambrose E. Burnside 1882

Despite a month-long delay in crossing the Rappahannock River, General Ambrose Burnside stubbornly stuck to his plan of assault on Fredericksburg, Virginia. He ordered charge after bloody charge that gained nothing, but cost 12,000 Union casualties. The 20th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment suffered two officers killed in action, 22 enlisted men wounded, and three enlisted men missing.
