Domain of the Golden Dragon Certificate
1952
The Domain of the Golden Dragon Certificate is a commemorative certificate for crossing the 180th Meridian, also known as the International Date Line. With the increase of Navy activity in the area of the 180th Meridian during and after World War II, the passage was so common that few initiation ceremonies were held.
The Domain of the Gold Dragon is one of many unofficial Navy awards. Other certificates include crossing of the Arctic Circle (Northern Domain of the Polar Bear or “Blue Nose”) or going around the world (Order of Magellan). They are given to sailors and other military branch members for reaching seagoing milestones.
