“Over the Top” Illinois!

Illinois contributed 351,153 men to the military for service in World War I, third only to New York and Pennsylvania. Men from Illinois served in every branch in the military and in every battle in which the United States Expeditionary Forces participated. 

Around $1.3 billion was raised in the state of Illinois during the Liberty Loan campaigns. This amounted to nearly eight percent of the total subscriptions to the United States’ war loans.
